In my previous post, I showed you a fun dog puzzle game called Dog Hide N Slide. I said that although that dog puzzle is fantastic, it is not suitable for all breeds. Specifically, that game may not be suitable for dogs with compact noses. And it may not be appropriate for breeds that are structurally too short or too small to effectively interact with that game. But I promised that I would be writing a post about another dog puzzle game soon. So, here it is! I am now very excited to tell you about the Pet Snuffle Mat that I purchased from Amazon!

To all the veterinarians that remain open…Thank you!
So as we and our dogs are making changes in our daily lives to social distance ourselves to reduce the spread of Coronavirus, I want to thank all of the veterinarians that remain open with minimal staff risking their own potential health for our pets’ health!
I continuously receive updates from my veterinarian clinic, Davisville Park Animal Hospital, on what they are doing to try to continue to stay open safely to provide care for pets that are in need of appointments for urgent matters.

Spring is almost here!
So spring is around the corner. And you can’t wait to let your dog out into the backyard to stretch his legs after a long winter! Now is the time to take action to prevent fleas, ticks and heartworm that would bring discomfort and disease to your dog!
It’s early in the season. But on March 5th I already took my dog to my vet to have her heartworm bloodwork done. And I bought the initial 3 months of Nexgard flea and tick prevention treatment. So I gave my dog the flea and tick prevention medication that same day. And I also bought the product to start on June 1st to prevent heartworm.

So now I feel it’s really important to discuss what you can do to find your dog if he or she should become lost. One of the most common ways dogs go missing is they dart out of your vehicle after you park and open the door. And as I detailed in a recent blog about crash tested car transport crates, it is best to restrain your dog in your car so that he doesn’t get the chance to escape. But in the worse case scenario that your dog gets lost, a pet microchip can mean the difference between life and death for your dog, and is also how your beloved animal can be returned to you.
We all want to make sure our dog comes home as fast as possible if he gets lost!

My winter wonderland cottage vacation with Roxy!
Have you ever wished you could find that perfect, relaxing home-away-from-home to take a much-needed winter break? And what if that place would not only welcome you, but would allow your dog to stay too? Last week my husband and I stayed at the dog-friendly Tallyho Inn, near Huntsville, Ontario, Canada. We enjoyed a week in the peaceful winter wonderland, exploring by day and cuddling up in our cozy cottage by night, all three of us, husband, dog and I tuckered out from being in the fresh country air. We have stayed there many times in the winter over the years because the cottages are lovely and totally comfortable, and most importantly, dogs are honoured guests too! Our dog Roxy gets excited as soon as we turn off the highway towards the resort!
Road trips with your dog in a crash-tested dog crate

Whether you’re going on road trips with your dog to the local park or to a far destination, it’s important to keep your dog safe in the car. Although it is possible to find specially designed harnesses to seatbelt your dog in the car, they are not ideal. When you must hit the brakes with force in an emergency, the harness will be pulled back into the dog’s front chest and can cause injury.
These are actual dog crates that I keep in my car all of the time so that I’m always ready for a road trip. These crash-tested dog crates are by the brand name Variocage. They help you to determine which model and size of crate will meet your needs.
